OUR HISTORY
Leemba Travel is a division ofMexitours DMC company founded in 1979.
In 2011, Andrés Mejía, commercial director and proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, realized the lack of information for inclusive destinations for the community and misinformation on safe destinations. So I present the initiative to open Gay Friendly Travel. A year after its formation, it changed its name to Leemba Travel.
Leemba is a word inspired by the Mayan word Leembal, which means shine, with the concept that the LGBTQ+ community has been in the dark of the closet for a long time that it was time to come out and shine.
We have participated in the most important tourism fairs in the world such as FITUR in Madrid, WTM in London and the Tianguis Turistico in Mexico.
During our career we have received several recognitions from different media such as Milenio Noticias, Food and Travel Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine and our director Andrés Mejía appeared in 2019 in Expansion magazine as one of the 41+1 executives out of the closet who give the face for the inclusion of Mexico.
Mexitours' 44 years of experience combined with a dedication to creating a world without discrimination have brought this project to life and created many unforgettable trips.
Our Cause
A percentage of our profits are donated to Casa Frida seeking to create a safe space for adolescents from the LGBTQ+ community who suffer discrimination from their families.
